Many people seem to know how to make cannabis oil, but that knowledge doesn’t help them if they use disadvantageous filtering methods. As a consequence, more cannabis oil is lost than stored safely.
At the moment, all cannabis enthusiasts filter the oil either through a fine cheesecloth or a paper coffee filter. Again, these two do not offer very pleasing results, because they absorb the cannabis oil instead of straining it.
However, you can easily make those methods work for you, and here’s how.
Using a Cheesecloth or Coffee/Cannabis Filter
So, you’ve grown accustomed to using a coffee filter or cheesecloth to strain your oil but observed that these materials absorb the oil and there’s no way for you to get it back. Don’t worry – the solution is simpler than you think.
All you have to do is dampen the cheesecloth beforehand. You can do it with alcohol or water. This way, it won’t absorb the oil anymore, and it will pass safely through it. The same thing applies to the coffee filter.
In this case, though, you should use alcohol. Another thing you should do is trim the coffee filter to the exact size you need. If you do so, the risk of hitting the filter accidentally and getting all the oil on the floor is minimal.
A Secret
Perhaps 90% of all those who prepare their own oil make a huge mistake after they’ve filtered their oil: they throw away the cheesecloth. That, you can rest assured, costs them a few spoons of precious oil and here’s why:
The cheesecloth has a lot of oil in it. You can get it out by closing it shut with a piece of string and put it in a pot of hot tap water. This way, the oil that was stuck in the fiber of the cloth will float towards the surface.
Use a spoon to collect it all. You can use the remaining water for anything you want, from cooking to watering your plants. Instead of filtering all the oil in just one sitting, considering filtering it in small amounts, so you don’t spill any of it.
Concluding Remarks
If you grow your own plants, you can get a pretty decent amount of cannabis oil, but if you don’t, you have to watch for every single drop of it. A few plants don’t give off as much oil as you think.
It is crucial that you use a filtering method that has been proven to be effective. If you dampen your cheesecloth a little before the filtering process, you’ll see how much of a difference this small step makes.
One more thing: you can actually use cooking, sunflower seed oil to dampen the cheesecloth or filter. The marijuana oil won’t go into the fibers. That’s about it – you can clearly see how easy it is to get the most oil out of your plants. Read also How to Make Your Own Weed ‘Dabs’ at Home.
